Conserving wall paintings: from Berwick church to rock-cut churches in Ethiopia

Lisa Shekede and Stephen Rickerby are wall painting conservators with a portfolio of UK and international work, who have been appointed to treat the murals at Berwick Church.

On Sunday 8th September they will give an illustrated presentation about their profession and will explain what is planned at Berwick Church.  This will be explored in the wider context of the preservation of other wall paintings worldwide, to include those in Buddhist cave temples in China and Bhutan, Egyptian tombs and painted churches in Cyprus, Georgia, Malta and Ethiopia.
